What do these Amp settings Mean?

What do the "2, 4 and 6 amp" settings mean on my Black and Decker battery charger?

  • Right now, my husband is charging up our car battery. He noticed that there are three settings on the charger, but wasn't sure what these three settings meant. Can you enlighten us?? thanks!

  • Answer:

If you have a day or two, use the 2A setting. It's a slower, but better, deeper charge. The 6A setting is the fastest charge, but it is not as thorough. It's ok if you plan to drive a long distance afterward though, as the alternator will finish up the thorough charge.

These are current settings, and charging batteries at to high a setting could cause them to overheat. The lower settings are for smaller batteries (motorcycles and the like) the higher settings are for larger batteries. On your car you are safe using the higher setting.

Each brand of charger is different, I'd have him read the instructions and or manual.
