Can you controll your dreams?
-
My boyfriend is 19 years old, and can't recall ever having a good dreams. Every night, he has horrible dreams. He has a psychologist, but he doesn't seem to be getting very much help. So, does anyone know of anything that could help his situation?

Answer:
there is a book by 'carlos casteneda' called 'the art of dreaming' it talks about how to dream and how to slowly gain control and abilities in your dreams. it uses various methods and techniques to achieve more awareness in dreams...almost like a parallel world...as real as our awake world... its interesting.....

Sometimes I can dream of whatever I'm thinking about before I fall asleep... i dunno how.. i guess it just happens. So tell him to just think about happy things, like you!

Yes. It's called lucid dreaming. But not everyone can do that. This is such a loaded question, especially since you said he's seeing a psychologist. So, obviously he has serious emotional/behavioural issues, correct? Until this is resolved, it's unlikely that the nightmares will go away. If he doesn't feel as though he's getting the help he needs then a new psych is in order. He could also look into going to a sleep specialist. He could have a sleeping disorder. Basically he will stay over night for a sleep study where they will monitor his brain waves, they will be able to tell what is happening to him. Regular occasions of sleep paralysis is a big red flag of a sleeping disorder. A few things he could try before bed Melatonin (Our body naturally produces it to regulate the sleep-wake cycle, and it also promotes a deeper sleep and reduces the REM stage) This can be bought at any health food store or pharmacy. Usually 2 pills are taken an hour or so before bed time. It has many other health benefits as well Chamomile tea is great too. Also, meditation techniques can do wonders as well. Going to sleep at the same time every night not eating right before bed etc It's difficult to give a specific answer without knowing the details. But to be honest, the most important thing for him is to see a sleep specialist and to change psychologists.

you can't control your dreams, but you can prevent yourself from having bad dreams in some ways. when you sleep, your brain goes wild and it just takes stuff from your memory very random and combine it somehow or just twisting what happened in reality which is why most of the time, your dreams do not make any sense and it can be really crazy. if there aren't any bad events still lingering in your memory, you shouldn't be having bad dreams all the time. so just tell him to try to forget whatever the unhappy events are and just focus more on what's more joyful in life and hopefully he'll dream of something nice.

Dreams are the language of the subconscious and therefore you have to be at the level of the subconscious to control them or awake in the dream which is called becoming lucid. The best method would be for him to say that every night he will have good, pleasant dreams and really believe it and that he cannot have a nightmare because he will dream only about happy things. It does workl. :)

The strength of surviving trauma is the same effort that works in your dreams. This person would have to do therapy awake. I think most of the horrors and nightmares I got rid of is from talking about it a lot to my b-f. If it's more personal than that, you should write it down and say everything. Afterwords, you'll feel better. Fear is involved, but the more you talk or write about it, the closer the pain will be concealed. Some things can't go, but your dreams are reflecting yourself letting go. Not with held. Most people have stuff to get out. Then you'll feel safer, and your dreams might change. Depending on the incident, may take a week or years. Strength comes through with time.

I did once ... but the thing is ... you have to realize your dreaming. If you don't realize it's a dream you can't control it. Many people don't remember their dreams or don't realize it's a dream so they can't control it.

think of good things before bed, watch good things, do good memorable things and remember it all before going to bed, or focusing on something for a while will also do that
hello there ツ
wow, that sucks. but yea you can control your dreams...but not everyone can do it...i can do it. likee...i go to sleep & whenever i dream, i can like easily control what's happening &then i wake up all rested & stuff but i can also remember what i dreamt about. it's confusing lol but not every1 can do that. for me, it's literally automatic. ahaha &&for your boyfriend, the psychologist SHOULD be able to help! he must not be very good at his job then lol...um, i'd say to find out what relaxes him...before he goes to bed, he should be in a good mood & relaxed & stuff...hmm. this a hard question lol

I can't really control my dreams, but if I'm having a bad dream I tell myself in the dream "This has to be a dream. Wake up! Wake up!" and it usually works. I always wake up after that. Before going to sleep I try to think of something that makes me happy so I will hopefully have good dreams, sometimes it works and sometimes it doesn't. I hope your boyfriend can have good dreams soon!! Sorry I couldn't help more. :)
