What book should I use to teach playing on a bass guitar?

Any reviews on the book Continuo Playing according to Handel: His Figured Bass Excercises?

  • Hi. I'm a pianist and I'm working on trying to learn how to play a figured bass for a trio I'm accompanying. The numbers under the notes in the bass line seem like gibberish to me. So I decided to search for books. I found "Continuo Playing according to Handel: His Figured Bass Excercises" on Barnes and Noble.com and I was wondering if anyone has any reviews on this book. Does it teach you how to play figured bass, or is it simply about Handel's pieces? If you have any other ideas for stuff like "figured bass for dummies" (yes, I TRIED seraching that title, and nothing came up) or books on how to teach yourself figured bass, I'd really appreciate it. Thanks!

  • Answer:

Ask a couple piano teachers. Better yet go into a music store and ask if they have what you are looking for.
