What are good strings?

What are good strings for a cello?

  • I'm looking for a good combination of strings that will have an amazing sound for orchestral playing and solo playing together. I really don't feel like buying different sets of strings for solo and orchestral playing, but if you have good suggestions please note them to me. :)

  • Answer:

Personally, I have always preferred the Larsen A and D strings and Spirocore Tungsten G and C strings, as they are the best suited strings for my cello. But as dlashof said, it largely depends on your instrument and your personal preferences.

It really depends a lot on your instrument. Some Cello's do better with 1 type of string while others do best with a different kind. It is best to go tot the shop to have them help you with your choice. After 35 years in the buisness, most professionals today that do both orchestral and solo work use either Larsen A & D/ Spirocore Tungsten G & C or Evah Pirazzi on all four strings.
