How do American football transfers work?
-
I'm trying to understand the chosen American sport, so that I might be able to enjoy it and know what people are talking about. But the transfers confuse me. How do they work? In football/soccer it's so much simpler. You pay a few million and he plays for you until you sell him for another few.

Answer:
You can't sell a player, only trade him for other players. When a contract has expired the player hits free agency, which may be restricted in certain ways depending on how many seasons he has under his belt.

This works the same way in American Football. Mainly on a contract basis.
