What is 5.1 channel input?

How can I use the control pin of an RC receiver's channel to be a Boolean input?

  • The control of the receiver's channel uses PWM, can I convert that to be a Boolean input so when the throttle is moved it can cause a 5V input, or would using the other pins of the channel work better?

  • Answer:

The other pins of the channel are the positive and negative supply for a servo, so you won't get a useful signal out of them. What you need to do is to put a large-value capacitor between the signal and negative pins, to convert the PWM signal to a DC value. That DC then goes to one input of a comparator IC (e.g. LM392). The comparator output will be low or high depending on the DC value in relation to the steady voltage on the other comparator input.
