When they show live of the outside... it allways looks like its like 4am between dark and almost daylight.. but then it shows its gone dark. And im watching it on: http://www.santaclauslive.com/main.php?link=santa_claus_live&kieli=eng Finland on the Arctic Circle Im in australia. When its allready dark here lets say its 9pm or 10pm at night in australia.. how come finland looks night time too when finland is in europe and europe is daylight ???? europe isnt night time when australia is night. So i quite dont understand the situation Unless they are making the live webcam as if it was live when it isnt perhaps ? I look at it and most of the times it looks like its half dark and half daylight but most times its night... I ask myself.. finland never turns day time at all ?

  • Answer:

Because of our northern location and because nights are light from the end of May to the beginning of August there is daylight in summertime around the clock across the whole of Finland. Lapland, north of the Arctic Circle, has "nightless nights" in the middle of the summer, when the sun does not sink beneath the horizon at all. This period starts at the end of May and continues to mid-July. In the far north of Lapland the nightless nights last from May 17 to July 27. In the middle of winter, in contrast, daytime is very short. In the south of the country daylight in December lasts only for 6 hours. In northern Lapland a period of darkness prevails at that time, with the sun not rising above the horizon at all. In the far north of Lapland (69-70 °N) the sun stays below the horizon for the whole of December and the period of gloom does not end until January 16. But in Sodankylä (67.3 °N) the sun is below the horizon only for a few days around Christmas.

im not completely sure but i think its because finland is in the arctic circle so therefore the is hidden behind the earth and since we rotate theres a 6 month period where theres no sunlight (winter) and i THINK theres 6 months of light
