How to split the phone call?

Is it rude if you're not someone who likes to talk on the phone?

  • I'm not the type who like to talk on the phone. Not like I hate it, I do sometimes, but I kind of like text messaging instead. Not because I'm some teenager who's obsessed with texting, and has forgotten the essence of real communication...it's just because I'm usually busy doing something else, and I can't multi-task while talking on the phone, my attention doesn't split that way. But I have a friend who just doesn't understand that. She knows me, but yet she'll always call me constantly and will say, "Call me." I love her and all, but it gets irritating when it's like, she's forcing me to call her, and when we talk, she'll talk for ten minutes about nothing, and then go off. But I don't want to be rude, sometimes I make excuses and say I'll call back, but then I don't cause i'm still busy....how do I send the message without being rude? Is it rude that I don't like talking on the phone? :/

  • Answer:

I can talk with my best friend for hours and hours, she is the only one now we only do it once in awhile. Most of the time I limit my time and NUMBER of times I will talk with a person daily. I can not multi task in that I need to be doing something and I can not do it if I am talking on the phone. So now even though I used to be against it I text. I can respond at MY convenience. A lot of times, some family call at times that they are commuting (this is around dinner time for us) and when they have done their nightly stuff (this is when I am trying to get my daughter to bed). I have some elderly relatives that I have had to say I can't talk right now I am trying to do this or that. They still try keep me on. So what I started is saying "You know I would love to talk and give you my undivided attention but I am cooking(or getting __________ to bed). [ optional ] "So can I call you back at so so or I will text you, is that okay?" Some of them do not get that and I have to be blunt, I am busy and can't talk. I'll text you.

It's not rude. I hate talking on the phone too. Maybe instead of talking on the phone and messaging, you can arrange for some more face to face time.

wel im not reading that WHOLE thing, but nah. i like being on the phone since i like hearing their voices, its more personal and you never know whos texting you. its easier to lie by texting, too. anyway, just tell them i dont feel like being on the phone jus text me and theyll most likely be ok wittit.

It is not the question of rude or not,but try to talk to her at least for some time as she likes it !
