How do I know if I'm singing from my diaphragm?

Why is my voice tense when im singing , how do you now when your singing from you diaphragm?

  • also why every time when i sing i get mucus in my throat? i cant afford music lessons /: and also where can i find a stage to practice songs on ? i live in los angeles im also 15 and clueless alooooooooot of people say i have a wonderful voice but i dont think so i need more work .

    I have also been told i have a nice voice, but i have the same problems as you. Though recently i have joined my school choir and that really helped me to learn how to use my voise correctly. Also, if you have a nintendo system (wii, ps3, or xbox 360 i think are some big ones that have this game) but you could buy a sing it game - there are many different ones from disney channel, to glee, classic disney, or just pop hits. On these video games there are some training sessions that, believe it or not help more than you would think. Also, warming up helps a lot. Try not to scream too much ie. On a roller coaster or just being silly because it is bad for yur voice. While you can excercise your voice and widen your range over time, be careful not to try too hard and strain it. Lastly, practice when you are by yourself. You wont be nervous at all And you will be able to play with your voice more and find your potential for yourself. Hope this helps and good luck (:

Ok, first answer. When you inhale all the way, your diaphragm automatically fills up. Take a full, deep breath, and then place your hand on your stomach. Then, hold a note for as long as you can. You should feel the air coming out of your diaphragm. Second answer: Ask your school if you can use their stage after school or at lunch. Also, their are rec centers that usually have stages you could practice on. Third answer: I'm not sure why you get mucus in your throat when you sing, are you drinking enough water?
