Resume length: Is there a standard?
-
Was having an interesting discussion yesterday. I'm thinking about getting a job in a supermarket or something :P According to my PLP teacher, resumes should be 1 page long, 2 pages if you have more than 20 years experience. Dad (who is currently sifting through a pile of job applicants) reckons that's nonsense; if your resume is only one page it will go straight in the bin for not having enough detail. Mum says 1-2 pages. Any opinions? Are there any specific standards?

Answer:
Its definetely one page. If you fill more then one page, you will start adding unnecessary details that the employer doesnt want to see, so pick your best job experiences and volunteer expeirences and awards and such --

I don't beleive there is a standard as such. If you don't have any previous work experience, don't try and make it more than 1 page and add crap on there. Your resume should only have what is relevant to the job you are applying for. So it should be altered for each job that you apply for. I have seen alot of ads for jobs where employers state that they won't accept resumes over 3 pages. SO overall as long as it is relevant to the hob you are applying for then it shouldn't matter, but 2 - 3 pages is generally standard. Good Luck

Long enough to convey your experience and education and awards. I think the one page resume rule is nonsense, but I also think going over three pages is probably an overkill. Mine is two pages of relevant information. I put my strongest stuff (work experience first) and education second (not as much formal training). Your resume is YOURS. Make it how you want to seem and what fits your experience without going over. Seriously, if you read your resume and it seem like a lot of fluff then cut that stuff out. Employers will think the same thing and don't want to be bored with every last detail.

There is no standard. My resume consists of 2 pages while I have 2 years experience only! The most important thing is the design to be very easy to read and follow. search for resume samples on google.
