How do you pole vault?

It's a very rhythmical thing to do. It's almost like hurdling...one two three hurdle. For vaulting your steps (depending on your distance) let's say one two three for five six lift jump pull. The way I vault is this: You start your stance with the pole (your hands should be about two fists apart). I'm right handed so my right hand hugs my waist a little and my left hand is up by my chest. I always step back with my right and push off my left. It's very important to run tall. Once you push off, you start counting your steps as well as dropping the pole. It's a lot of timing. Your pole should look almost like a clock. the closer you get to the mat, you more you lower your pole. You lower it till it is at 90 degrees at the least. Once it's time for you to jump, you quickly plant your pole and raise your body to the right side of the pole. It's almost like a rowing motion as you get in the air. You keep your right knee up as high as you can. Try to swing your body horizontally then turn towards the pole and turn towards the bar as you cross. You should land on your back.
