• This is my assignment: "Discuss the main ideas of John Locke. (There are three). How do they impact us today in America?" And this is my answer: John Locke argued that the power of government comes from the consent of its citizens and that consent is only possible when the citizenry is informed and engaged. He believed that if we band together in government, we can come to each other's aid in the protection of our natural rights of life, liberty, and property. He argued that humans are born naturally free and equal, and that no one is born subject to another's will, and no one can control another without the person's consent. American democracy gets its inspiration from his liberal democratic views and the authors of the Declaration of Independence drew heavily on his ideas. I found those three main ideas scattered throughout my book and I barely changed the wording at all...is that okay? Should I use quotation marks or anything? I mean, since it's not an essay or anything..... And is my answer okay even with quotation marks? Is there anything *else* wrong with my answer? =o Thanks.

  Yes you should use quotation marks because I'm sure your professor knows the book and would tell right away that you just gently reworded it. What I would do is quote the first main principal idea and then evaluate it with an explanation in my own words same with the second and third. When evaluation try and connect each main idea with the impact in America. And most def. do not forget to quote what's found in the book if you have it word for word.
