Math SAT II's for University of Virginia?
-
Alright I'm a high school junior and my dream college is UVA. They require me to take a Math SAT II at one of the two levels, but I don't know which one I should take. I'm not very good at math and I'm only in Algebra II this year and I only have one chance to take the test: October. So I guess what I need to know is if taking the Math Level I would really hurt my chances of getting in? Does anybody go to UVA and can help or knows of people who got in with only Math I?

Answer:
I don’t know the exact Math SAT II's needed to gain admission to the University of Virginia. But you definitely need to get great grades. A great GPA and a great SAT score are a must. After you accomplish this, start thinking about ways you can separate yourself from the competition. Extracurricular activities are very important. Lastly, make sure you want to go to University of Virginia. I know a lot of students that thought they wanted to go to their dream school, but when they got in and went to that school, they were really disappointed. I can't help you with UVA specific stuff, but I do know that if you're only in Algebra II, you'll have a lot of material to learn over the summer for the Level II SAT. It might be worth it to take level 2 if you're really careless at math though, because the curve on the level 1 test is a lott harder. When you buy review books, they usually have both levels in one book, so you should be able to tell easily which test to take. And it's not like you're under any rush to decide - if you sign up for level 2 and then realize before the test that it's too hard, you can always just take the level 2 test on SAT day. The way it's set up, you can take any SAT2 you want, even if you didn't sign up for it, as long as you're not switching into a language with listening test. Good luck :)
