Physics/Biblical Studies Double major?

Should I double major in English and American Studies?

  • I don't know whether I should double major in English and American Studies or major in English and minor in American Studies. Although, I enjoy analyzing literature, I am interested in pursuing a career that gears towards immigration. Therefore, law school is definitely an optional path I'd take. Note: I am not 100% if I want to study immigration law. Another possible path would be pursuing journalism in grad school perhaps to narrate the experiences of immigrants through my writing.

  • Answer:

Two completely different paths compounded by one common thread-- English. In all honesty I would forget about "American Studies" in university and concentrate on English Lit. It will serve you well for whatever you choose in grad school-- law or journalism.

Spend your extra tuition dollars on law school or grad school instead of earning the ability to say, "I double majored!" I mean really, if you are going to get a grad degree, nobody will really care what your undergrad major was anyway. Furthermore, I don't know about your university, but mine doesn't even acknowledge the double major on the diploma.

Forget all that and get a degree that might actually get you a job one day.
