How do I get rid of a pulled muscle?

How can I get rid of back muscle pain? I think I Pulled a muscle and it hurts right near my spine (right side)?

  • I was doing a back workout (not exactly knowing what i was doing) and i felt a pull in my muscle. It's been sore for weeks now and I can't get rid of the pain... Should I stop doing workouts that bother my back? I am pretty sure it is just muscle pain becasue when I massage the painful area with my fist, the pain is nearly gone for a little while. How can I defeat this pain for good so I can continue to squat, deadlift, and power clean regularly?

  • Answer:

Your best bet is to go and see your doctor then they can see if there is an underlying problem. Use something such as Deep Heat which can soothe the area, as well as painkillers. Best thing to do is to stop using that area of muscles in your exercise workout, as it needs some rest to get itself to heal again, and if you keep using it, it won't have a chance to get better!

Active On!! That stuff is awesome :D

Yes, stop the exercises that bother your back; you're not giving it a chance to heal. Take over-the-counter pain meds and use a heating pad; right after the muscle pull an ice pack would have been recommended but not now. Since you've been doing self-massage and it helps, I recommend you take the pain relievers, do the massage and use the heating pad several times a day. You know not to lie directly on a heating pad as they can burn you. Skip your entire exercise routine for at least a week, then start back doing only those that don't bother your back. This will give the muscle time to heal and keep you comfortable at the same time. After a number of weeks you can try one of the painful exercises but do only a few reps or for a short time; you want to start using that muscle but not damage it again. Recommend you not exercise if you don't "know what you're doing" and that you always warm up and cool down. Perhaps a few sessions with a personal trainer would be beneficial.
