How many watts RMS for two subs?

150 Watts RMS to two subs?

  • I have two 10" Kicker Comps and am looking for an amp to power them. I'm currently looking at the Rockford Fosgate Punch 300.1. Although what confuses me is that the speakers are 150 watt RMS at 4ohm apiece. Yet, the amp puts out only 150 watt RMS at 4 ohm. So since I'd be running TWO subs rated at 150 watts RMS, wouldn't 150 watts RMS to BOTH speakers be underpowering them? Thanks for the help.

  • Answer:

if that rockford amp is 150rms @4ohms then it should be 300rms @2 ohms....(hence the 300.1 part of it)....i think its a 2 ohm stable amp....also you would run the subs on the same channel bridged on that amp to get that 2 ohm load...(2) 4 ohm subs wired together on a channel is called parallel wiring and will produce a 2 ohm load, perfect for that amp im sure....

Jay fizzy has the right idea, but this is a mono amp... so you cant "bridge channels" together, since its a 1 channel amp! You are fine man. A pair of 4 ohm subs can be wired together for a 2 or 8 ohm load.... so that amp is perfect for your subs!
