Why do CD player lights dim?

Car dash/interior lights are out. Cd player shuts off when lights are on.?

  • i actually have 2 questions. in my 1996 plymouth neon the car dash lights all of a sudden went out and same with my interior lights. Second question is my sony xplode cd player went out on me...at first i could turn it on and it would light up and now it does not have any power to it. i installed my factory stereo because i figured that would work but it only works when my headlights are off. as soon as i switch the headlights on...the stereo shuts off. its weird because i checked my ground and rubbed it on a screw and it was giving spark and a weird clicky noise that seems to be coming from where my headlight switch is. it also powers down and gives that same click noise when i open my car door. i have checked the ground and the illumination wire and all fuses. and i have heard it could be the alternator but my car doesnt have problems starting and the factory stereo works fine when the lights are off. Please help!

I don't know about your first question, but I can help you with the second one. Maybe your Sony CD player is a little bit old. Sure you can find the after sale service to repair if still in the warranty period. But I highly recommend you to get a new one, the repairing cost is high. Eonon Car DVD player is a good aftermarket unit, it can also play movies, with ipod, bluetooth, etc. Cheap and with 2 years warranty, worth the price. Good luck!
