How can I power 4 speakers with a 2-channel amp?

Will the kicker 10zx350.4 4 channel amp put to much power on my door speakers?

  • I currently am planning on buying the kicker zx350.4 to push a pair of kicker ks40 4" door speakers and and a pair of 08ks6930 6x9 speakers in the rear deck. The door speakers are rated to only handle 30w each, while the 6x9s could handle 100w each. I am afraid that if I hook up the amp, it will send just enough power to the 6x9s, but too much to the 4" door speakers and blow them. This amp is underrated to put out 90w to each channel at 2 ohms. And 60w at 4 ohms. If I wire to 4 ohms then my 6x9s will be underpowered. I wish I could just get bigger door speakers that can handle more wattage but my door panel will not allow that without modification. Right now, I just want to get what fits. If you guys know of 4" speakers that can handle more wattage then the ks40s then that will be helpful.

A couple of questions: What year make and model car do you have? What is your budget for speakers? There are much better speakers than the Ks40's. They aren't bad, but the power handling is moderate (for a 4") and they are towards the low end on the sound quality spectrum. If you have a lot of depth, you could look at Focal polyglass 4"s. They'll handle more power and are still affordable. Price aside, you could get some focal K Power 4" components, or dynaudio 4" components. I always recommend spending most if not all of your speaker budget on your front speakers. Your front speakers are responsible for proper imaging and staging, and are closer to your ears. You want your sound to come from in front of you, like at a concert, and focusing on your front speakers helps you do this. Any questions ask me, I have worked in car audio for just about 15 years.

4 channel amps have 2 gains (one for front channels) and (one for rear channels) just set the gain level low for the 4" speakers and you will not have any problems.
