Subwoofer question worried about them?

BLown subwoofer question?

  • Alright well two questions, one of my subwoofers fried but still worked and hit just as hard as the other one...and so i kept using it for two months (still hitting really hard, never smelled it burn out again) but could that have screwed up my amp when used with another perfectly good subwoofer? because im going to get two new ones and i dont want my amp blown...also i want to just rewire the one subwoofer up. since it fried i disconnected the RCAs from my amp, but now i just want one hooked up. the way the installer installed everything i can't see how to get the wires unscrewed...so can i just disconnect the subwoofer part of the wires but leave two dangling wires left in the amp? or would that change ohm loads and stuff?

  • Answer:

it shouldn't have damaged the amp as long as you wired it to an impedance which the amp is comfortable with, if you did wire it to an impedance the amp doesnt like, it still will probably work, most amps have circuitary protection systems. but still, I believe you are clipping the subwoofers, turn the gain down so the sub doesn't sound distorted and it should be fine.
