What are seeds and peers in Utorrent?

UTorrent downloading problem?

  • Hey guys I have got this utorrent problem since a few days. ITs been bugging me like hell. Firstly whenever I start utorrent my firefox slows down. I cant surf fast and most of the times nothing loads. I checked with my firewall both have been added to exceptions. Secondly in utorrent it will show for a torrent like this: Seeds 0(0) Peers 1(1200) or sometimes it shows 0(1200) It doesnt connect to any seeds. I go back to the original site and check if there are any seeds, it shows that there are about 100 or so seeds. In the tracker section in utorrent it says after sometime either "connection closed by peer" or "offline(timed out)". Majority of the times it says "offline (timed out)" This is happening to all my torrents from different trackers. I am behind a router, all ports have been forwarded properly with a green tick at the bottom of utorrent. Please help me I dont understand what is wrong. thanks in advance (to anyone who attempts to help me)

okay you are throwing a lot of somewhat random information out there, it's not really helping much. visit the utorrent website and follow their instructions for setting up utorrent. make sure your ISP is not blocking p2p protocols. make sure your issue is not related to downloading old torrents with no seeds. firefox should not slow down while downloading torrents. perhaps decrease your upload speed? scan your system for viruses.

If you've recently upgraded I'd go back to 1.7.7 This is available at filehippo and it's safe. http://www.filehippo.com/download_utorrent/3729/ Obviously you will have to optimize it again as before. If you are using XP and have used the lvl lord patch this will have to be reset every time you use windows updates. If you're not using it then maybe you should give it a go.

Try lowering your upload bandwidth and shut down your browser and you should see some differences.
