Is online shopping safe or not?

Shopping online with mobile broadband safe?

  • is shopping online with mobile broadband safe?

  • Answer:

YES. It is 'safe' if that's your only worry. 'cause security breach in your transaction can be caused by spyware in your computer (or maybe another computer that you share your mobile broadband with). So, if you are shopping online, just ensure that you are doing it in a 'clean' computer, private and unshared network (in your case, the mobile broadband). Cheers.

yes as long as you use mobile broadband and not a public hotspot, you must make sure however that when you are paying the padlock is displayed in the browser, this signifies ssl encryption.

Yes, it is actually safer than using your WiFi network at home or a public WiFi network. The reason for this is that when you are connected to a WiFi network a "hacker" can use something called a "man in the middle" attack that will make your computer's wireless card think that it is connected to the proper network when in reality all of your network traffic is being filtered through the hacker's access point that they have setup to trick you. This is commonly done in public places that have Wifi and is why you should never send private information over a public network. Mobile broadband uses your selected carrier's cell network to transmit data through a 3G/4G connection. The only access point is directly with your provider's cell tower which makes it next to impossible to fake because it is a direct connection and there are no known "man in the middle" attacks that have ever been able to intercept 3G/4G traffic. There ARE those that are trying to create some sort of way to exploit this but as of yet it has not happened thankfully, so yes go ahead and shop away!

When shopping online, you should always make sure that the part of the website that takes your payment details and password is using a secure, encrypted connection with a valid SSL certificate. Your browser will normally pop up a message to tell you if the certificate is invalid. You should also only buy from websites you trust. If you follow these general rules, shopping using mobile broadband should be just as safe as shopping with any other internet connection. The other thing to watch out for is people physically looking over your shoulder ("shoulder surfing") if you are shopping online in a public place. People sometimes do this to make a note of your credit card details or passwords.
