Trouble installing microsoft security essentials?

Why am I having trouble installing Microsoft Security Essentials?

• The security is the main issue here since I was instructed to uninstall my former security program. Each time I try to install MSE, I get the message that "an error occurred" and the installation could not be completed. Then I'm asked to restart my computer and try again. I've tried 3 times with the same result. Since I have no security programs running, I'm virtually "floating" around in cyberspace unprotected. Not as important although it might have some bearing on the problem but, the same thing happens when I try to install Y! Messenger 10. Any help will be greatly appreciated.

  Sometimes this will help. When the file begins to download, select Save instead of Run. Save the file to an area on your computer that you will remember (desktop for example) When the file is saved Right Click on the icon and select "Run as Administrator". Messenger has its own set of problems, but saving might help as well. If you already have Messenger installed and you are trying to download it again..it might not allow you...saying you already have it installed.
