Why do I sweat while sleeping?

Does your baby sweat when sleeping?

  • My baby (8 mos) sweats when she sleeps. The other day I got her up from her nap and where her head was on the crib matress was a big ring of sweat....tonite she woke up crying and her back was all sweaty and it made the sheet damp. She doesn't have a fever and I had the heat on 70 but I just turned it down to 68 thinking that it was too hot for her. She's in one piece jammies with a comforter over her. Does your baby sweat like this? Do you think it's normal? What's up????

  • Answer:

Some babies sweat all the time-it's usually normal. Is she wearing fleece pj's? Maybe instead of giving her a comforter try giving her just a light blanket -

Give her just a receiving blanket

Wow! I just googled this because my baby left a wet spot on my shirt from his head sweating and from what I saw it is very normal and nothing to worry about. Just make sure they don;t have on a hat while indoors and most babies don;t need those pajamas that are made out of fleece while they are indoors. My baby is 3 months old so an 8 month old sweating is definately ok!

I don't have any children yet (I'm 18 weeks right now) but when my nephew was a baby, about that age, he would sweat when asleep all the time. It was kinda gross when I was holding him and he was asleep on my stomach and I'd end up having to change clothes when he woke up. Personally I think it's normal. But I could be wrong.

well if u have a comforter over her thats probably not a good idea. They say not to do that for choking reasons, and SIDS and stuff. So, make sure it is just a thin blanket. Also if your house is only at 70 degrees then she may just be a sweater....it's normal. Let you pediatrician know and if they have any concerns then they will tell you but I think its fine take care hope this helps

Haha. My brother used to do that all the time. Its normal, esp if they are chubby. His hair would be like so wet and he'd smell like beef or something. It's normal, lol.

Okay well i don't have a child because im only 13, but when I was younger, wearing a one-piece pj thingy and then a comforter on top was like torture, it's like wearing two layers of fleece or more. well it sorta is. lol i hope this helps. so just get some different PJ's for your child or get a thinner blanket.

I had the exact same problem when my son was only a few weeks old! He would wake up wet in his back from sweat. I too turned down the heat but that did not work because then his hands and feet were very cold. I did some research on this and it turns out that this is related to the babies hormones. My friend had the same problem with her son and her doctor confirmed that this is related to hormone levels in the baby. It will go away on its own. Just make sure to use 100% cotton clothes and comforter. Polyester or fiberfill only makes it worse.

My son (now 2) has always run a little bit hotter than the rest of us. If we kept our house at 70, he'd have to be in thin jammies with no blankets or he'd be a hot, sweaty, miserable boy. If she's getting so hot and sweaty that it is waking her up, I'd get rid of the comforter. It is normal and nothing to worry about...just realize that what is comfortable for you may be too warm for her.
