How do I stop my OCD?
-
I think that I have OCD. I have all the symptoms. I have to take a certain number of steps sometimes, the volume on the tv or stereo always has to be on an even number, and sometimes I feel like if I don't touch something or blink a certain number of times that something bad will happen. The "bad thing" that happens is usually whatever I'm scared of at the moment. Like my mom talks to me about how much trouble I'd be in if I got pregnant as a teenager, so ALL THE TIME I feel that if I don't, say, knock on wood times then I will get pregnant as a teenager. Also, it's whatever I'm worrying about like if my grades are low I'll think "if I don't tap this pencil on the desk 7 times then I'm going to get a C." I mostly worry about random things such as cancer, pregnancy, bad grades, getting into trouble, my loved ones dying/getting hurt, and just everything. This really distracts me when I'm reading or trying to do homework or even if I'm not doing anything and I feel like I have to blink a certain number of times I feel like an idiot, especially when I'm around people (don't do it as noticibaly then). Could this be partial anxiety too? What are things that I can remind myself or things I can do to make this go away besides medication and therapy? I've tried talking to my mother about it but she just calls me a hypocondriac. I feel so phsyco and weird, but I need answers. Thanks in advance everyone. ;]

Answer:
When I was younger I had this problem, too. The way I got over it was to tell myself f*ck it, what happens, happens. Nothing bad is gonna happen if I don't do my ritual. I'm much better today.

Why is therapy out of the question? Cognitive behavioral therapy can be very beneficial. If not, try to look at what really happens if you do not do these things. You may be able to "train" your brain to realize there are no bad outcomes if you do not do these things. OCD can cause a lot of anxiety and often times depression.
Well, I honestly don't think there's anything you can do until you seek therapy. You can try your hardest to think of something positive once these thoughts come into your head. Other than that, I really think treatment is your best option.
I have really really mild OCD. I only have it like the slightest bit but you could never tell. It sounds like you do have OCD but don't freak out because there are MILLIONS of other teens who have OCD. It could be anxiety, too, though. It's really hard to say if it will go away or not. But, to tell you the truth, if you have habits like blinking your eyes a number of times, chances are people are too consumed with their own lives to even notice it or give it a second thought. But, worries like you are talking about just come with being a teen.
