How do crickets die this is weird?

Can somebody gimme atleast 3 reasons why the crickets in a kriket keeperwould die?

  • I just want to know because many of my crickets died and this is my first time holding crickets for my soon to get leo ... i had lettuce in there, carrots, and a fluckers high calcium gut load product. i learn that i was suppose to put like a not to wet paper towel as a bedding so they can drink and not dehydrate so i know to do that next time, but is there any other reasons why my crickets would've died on me?

  • Answer:

Crickets will die if kept in unsanitary conditions, so it is important to keep it clean and remove the dead ones. Sounds like you're good on the food. A small water dish filled with cottonballs will work for a water source, or you can buy cricket quencher. Aso, keep in mind they have a short life span so if you bought large adults, they wouldn't live long anyway.

hey :) Crickets are pesky, to me at least. 1) They suffocated eachother. Make sure to have some cardboard or egg cartons, crumpled up paper towel, paper towel rolls, anything for them to sit on. When they climb on each other, they can suffocate eachother and kill eachother. 2) Instead of wet substrate, you can buy water pillows, You soak them in water, and the water stays inside and wont come out till the cricket sucks out the water (and they wont drown). : http://www.petco.com/product/12128/Zilla-Cricket-Water-Pillows.aspx The environment was probably too wet for them, or too cold. 3) Too many crickets in one keeper -- usually in the small ones you can keep about 50-100. you dont want them to suffocate! You can also try a bin with a lid, it works just as good, as you can put more stuff in without those tubes sticking out. http://www.youtube.com/results?search_query=how+to+make+a+cricket+keeper&aq=f Good luck! :) -mel

Simply just an unhealthy batch of crickets. Crickets are weird...if one dies, they all die. It sounds like you did all that you could to care for them, so it's not you, it's the crickets. Buy some more and don't sweat it ;) But you may want to get the crickets at the same time as you get the leo next time!

In addition to what everyone else mentioned, it also could've been too hot for them. Be sure to keep them in a cool room, but not too cool as they can't tolerate extremely hot or cold conditions. How long did you have the crickets? I'm assuming not long, but keep in mind to also clean out the keeper of any poo, dead crickets and rotting food.
