Can a dog twist its ankle?

  • Can a dog twist its ankle? I think mine has but people laugh when I say that. He just was walking then started crying a lot but there's no sign of an injury - so I think he's pulled amsucle or twisted his ankle.

    You did not mention how long this has been bothering your dog. A dog can hurt it's foot or leg just like us humans when we pull a muscle or twist our foot. I would give it a day or so and see if it stops... just like you would do if you hurt your own foot. Make sure your dog doesn't do any running or jumping while the leg is hurt, so not to cause further damage. If it persists then take him to a Vet. It could just be a pulled muscle. Touch and rub the leg that is bothering your dog to see if you can figure out where the pain might be coming from. Give a nice rub down in that area if not to painful. I would also check to see if there might be something stuck between your dogs pads or toes that is causing pain.

Dogs don't have ankles, so no. He might have popped his patella, or his hips are bothering him --- or any number of other possibilities. If he's in pain, which he obviously is, get him to your vet! Delaying will only make it worse, and cost you more possibly, in the long run.

He needs to see a vet as he is obviously in pain. So get him a appointment as soon as possible.
