What is SPCA?

What kind of work is done at an SPCA exactly?

  • I have a job interview at a local SPCA down the road tomorrow, and I wanted to know more of what they do other than taking in stray animals, caring for them and trying to find them a home, neuter/spay, putting them down.. and whatnot. I've tried googling, but I can't find anything else other than what I already know. This will also be my first job if I get it, but does anyone know what they would start me off doing? Basic clean and care... or...?

  • Answer:

Everything you stated is about everything they do. They will more than likely start you off at Kennel help.. which is cleaning out the dog runs and the cattery (emptying litter pans, feeding cats/dogs,walking dogs, cleaning dog runs).. Also, probably bathing the dogs. You might have to walk around and ask people if they have any questions, or what type of pet they came to look at/find.. and then take the dog/cat out of their cage and let the people interact with it, etc.

That's pretty much the jist of it. I would look and see if they have their own website (city name) spca otherwise when you go to the interview you can ask them what else they do. Every SPCA is different in the exact services they provide.
