Why has my cat stopped urinating in the litter box?

  • My cat is almost a year old and is fixed and has never had this problem before. I looked into it a bit and can't seem to nail down why he would be doing this. He uses the litter box for any bowel movements he has, but won't urinate in there. He has been using the same box for months. We haven't changed the boxes location. We have been using the same brand of litter forever. No stress in the household. Does this sound like a medical issue? I can't really afford to take him to the vet, but will if I must... any home remedies maybe? Any help would be appreciated.

    honestly I would try... getting another litter box. it might be two small, or some cats don't like to pee and poo in the some box. give that a go. if it doesn't help take the cat the the vet there might be something else wrong. :) hope that helps.

I would take your cat to the vet very soon since this is a new occurance seemingly out of nowhere. Cats with urinary tract issues can get dangerous bladder infections. A lot of times they'll start urinating outside of the litterbox and it is especially dangerous in male cats.

Well first the most important thing to do is to get your cat spayed or neutered. Urinating out of the box can show he/ or she is marking there territory. another reason is if the box isn't thoroughly cleaned to the bottom. cats can sense very slight smells, and cats also like being clean. to prevent the cat urinating out of the box you can 1. clean the spot where he cleaned as quickly and as well as possible, so he doesn't smell his urine, and think about peeing there again. hope this helps :) you can also get cat repelent sprays and everyday lightly spray the corner to he doesn't want to go there anymore. or you can also put a chair or box or something where he pees so he cant reach the spot.
