Surround sound problem! hooking up sorround sound to tv or playstion 3?
-
Alright so heres my deal, I have a Phillips DVD player surround set but it seems to be as a friend of mine claims that the audio out (red and white) outlet on my DVD player is not working thats why i cant hear the surround sound while watching regular tv. Recently i bought a LED HDTV (haier) So i will need to purchase a blu-ray player, now ive heard that you can buy blu ray players with the speaker jacks at the back But the only problem is i would perfer to purchase a playstation 3 cause i have compared and read and that sounds like a better option. So i would like to know if there is anyway or any cords i can buy to some how hook up my surround sound to my ps3 or tv without using the tv audio out jack(red and white) on my dvd surround sound player Thank you

Answer:
Surround sound gets to be a pain because everyone that has a theater in a box, wants s/s on every device they have. It only works for the dvd or blu ray. To get better sound you can hook up a digital cable or a/v cable from the audio out of the tv back to the audio in of the s/s. Then put the receiver on multi. It's better sound but can not compare to the true surround sound that comes from an a/v receiver where all you devices go thru the receiver and out to the speakers.

What you is if your TV has a Toslink Output (Digital Optical Out) you can purchase a Fiber Optic Cable (Toslink) and connect it to your Surround Sound System. Purchase an HDMI Cable to connect your PlayStation 3 since HDMI supports up to 8 channels of Audio for 7.1 Surround Sound. Connect your TV to your Sound System using the Toslink Cable. If your Sound System or your tv doesn't have a Toslink input/output you can check if either one has a Coaxial input/output (The orange RCA looking plug). Any RCA plug will work. Then enable your TV to output sound through one of these cables to your sound system and make sure that your PlayStation 3's Sound Settings are configured to your liking. Also, make sure that your Sound System is able to decode Dolby Digital Pro Logic II or DTS. If it does, make sure that you enable it. The instruction manual to your Sound System should tell you how to do so.
