Find all IP addresses on router?

Why does my router give out wrong IP addresses?

  • Although I am an IT student, I can't seem to figure out whats wrong with my router. I've set the DHCP to give out 192.168.200.* as the addresses. However, whenever I set my computers to DHCP it comes abck with a 192.168.0.*. If I statically assign the IP's, they work just fine and can connect to the internet. Could be something with my modem handing out IP's along with my router? Assume its a typical vendor router (Linksys, D-Link, etc.)

  • Answer:

So you are telling it to assign DHCP address from 192.168.200.xxx range, but it is defaulting back to the 192.168.0.xxx range? Are you making sure to hit "save settings" after making the changes? Also it sounds like it is a D-link router based on the default IP... have you tried to reset the router to factory and try again? Have you tried to update the firmware? There might be an issue with that model. There are about a million settings depending on the router, so I would just go over all the options very slowly and make sure that you try the stuff above. Your modem will not hang out IP addys along with your router. The modem just receives the connection from your ISP. The router is the one that handles moving the traffic from your LAN to the WAN and vice versa.
