Wireless connection keeps dropping out?

Wireless connection keeps dropping off!! PLEASE HELP?

I keep being disconnected from the wireless connection at my home. There are currently two laptops in the house and my housemates in connected fine so I assume it is not the router. I am able to connect for approx 3-4 minutes only. I then have to enter the WEP Key when I go to properties and OK and close and I connect but only for a couple of minutes. When I next go into properties (after being disconnected and having to reconnect) the WEP Key which is already in the space, is much longer than the one I entered. It almost appears that the WEP key has changed when I have been on the computer. I then have to get rid of what is in the box and enter the WEP key and I will be connected again. This has been happening for a couple of days. I am able to connect to the internet via an ethernet cable but due to flat sharing not always possible to be in that room! As you can probably guess I am not the world's best person when it comes to understanding computers so any help please make sure this is in layman's terms so that I can understand. Pleas help and many thanks!!!

Try moving closer to the router.
