Do I need a converter for this headset?

Only one laptop jack for headset?

  • My old MSI laptop has two jacks. One for the mic and one for the headset. I bought a new laptop (Asus K42J) this month because my MSI needs to be replaced already and the laptop I bought only has one jack. I can't use my old headset properly because I can't use the headset and mic simultaneously. I'm wondering if I can buy a headset with only one plug for the mic and headset or if there is a converter I can buy which can convert my Asus laptop's jack into two jacks like that on my old MSI. I really need to use the headset and mic simultaneously because I'm having online classes every night.

you can do both, but instead of getting a mic that has just a jack... get one that just goes in the usb... that way you would never have this kind of problem...

Another option is you can use the inbuilt microphone in the laptop, and then just wear your headset/headphones to stop any noise spill/overflow into the microphone, which will cause feedback. Otherwise, you can get wireless bluetooth headsets/microphone combo's. They're great, and elimate any use of jacks and wires :)

you can get an adapter for your system at Radio Shack, take the laptop in and your headphones so they sell you the correct one

The annoying thing about laptops is nearly every model lacks some little essential thing, in your case the mic jack. The solution is pretty simple, USB. By a USB headphone, mic setup. Or you can use USB speakers and your mic. I am a bit surprised though, I would think your laptop would have a built in mic, if it has a built in camera, then it will have a built in mic too.
