How do I install a dell 920 without an install CD?

Reinstall Windows XP in my Dell Latitude D600 problem?

  • i am got a used dell latitute d600 laptop and i want to install windows XP in it. i already have the reboot CD that installs windows xp. i have reinstalled windows xp in my previous laptops too. so the CD is fine and working well.. like other times i follow the same procedure, insert the CD when my laptop starts and follow the instructions. in my dell latitute d600, when i turn on the laptop with the installation CD already inserted, it doesnt show me any message such as " PRESS ANY KEY TO BOOT FROM CD". it directly takes me the windows loading screen and keeps the laptop on the previous windows configuration. can u please tell me what should i do to install windows xp. or is there any alternative way to install windows from the installation CD. and my CD drive is working fine, there is no problem in it your help is appreciated

Well, You have to change your bios settings when laptop starts booting press del or f8 button, a blue screen come, change the boot device from cd/dvd and restart the system. The system now would start booting from cd/dvd. Install Fresh XP from that cd. Thanks

You need to change your "First Boot Device" settings in BIOS. Not sure how to get in bios on your laptop, it should say when u first turn it on, it says something like Press ex. F4 for bios... If u get into bios find "first boot device" and set it to CD/DVD room

You have been told you will have to alter your boot device order in bios but pressing F2 is more likely during the Dell logo. If your original Operating system was XP i'm not sure why you are doing this unless you have had your hard disk replaced at some time. This is because you should have system recovery software on your hard disk which will reload your O/S plus all the required drivers and the software that came with your laptop. To do this look at your user manual or read the following Dell web page.and make the selections for you http://support.dell.com/support/topics/global.aspx/support/kcs/document?c=us&l=en&s=gen&docid=DSN_336966&isLegacy=true
