Why isn't my computer in Vista settings?

If I restore my Vista laptop computer to factory settings with restore CD, will I lose all files on it?

  • Vista will not boot all the way, and HP tells me it's become corrupted. They're sending me a restore CD. By restoring it to the factory configuration, am I losing all the stuff I've created and saved on the hard drive...or am I just losing the programs?

  • Answer:

Yes, you will loose everything. If there is things you care about on your computer you can back them up. This can be done in numerous different ways. CD, SATA, USB Stick, External Hard drive and more.

unless you've got seperate partitions eg a c and d drive then yes if you have a second partition then maybe not

Everything....Back it up with another computer (your computer more than likely has a SATA hard drive...which will plug into any standard SATA connections.

Yes!!! Party all the way!!!

i vote for backup, your personnel files ,system state, programs files not windows files that is the problem to a external drive, restore them after the system recovery, sign off got to go to work

If the hard drive is corrupted it is unlikely you will be able to retrieve anything from it by any means i'm afraid , if you have any really important stuff on there i would take it to a pro on the understanding that you will only pay if what you want is recovered . It's worth a try but i'm doubtful even a pro could help . Sorry .
