Have you ever bought a refurbished TV?

What are your thoughts on refurbished products?

  • Just bought a display model tv 3 days ago which was the last one and a 2011 model, so no more are gonna be coming in. I got it for a great price, but it has some defects in the display. I can return it to the store and get my moneyback or call in the warranty and get a (most likely) refurbished one. Which would you do? Are refurbished items usually good as new?

    Much like "certified pre-owned" cars, refurbished means different things to different manufacturers, and they don't make those criteria public. Refurbished products may be "buyer's remorse" returns, or defective items that have been inspected and repaired. Either way they can't be sold as new so they're often used for warranty returns. I don't recommend BUYING a refurbished model unless the manufacturer will extend the full manufacturer's warranty with no exceptions. For instance, Apple's refurbished computers come with the same warranties as a new Mac, making them an excellent value. I've bought two Macs this way and been very satisfied with what I got. If you like the TV, and it's a big set, then I'd go the warranty route. But if it's a 26" or smaller then I'd take it back to the store and ask for a refund.

Wear and tear happens to electronic devices no matter how well you take care of them. Before you buy, look at the warranty for the device. Most computers feature a one-year warranty, but some may offer more, along with extended warranty options.

I've never had good experiences with refurbished things. I suppose under warranty they would have to keep replacing it until one actually works, so if you like the tv a lot, I guess it would be worth a try.

I think you should return that piece of junk and try to buy a new one. Refurbished are used items, comes with limited warranty sometimes, but I do not think its good idea.

Honestly, i dont trust refurbished products but you can take the risk :/

Refurbished items are items that have been returned, and they were returned for a good reason. Don't buy them!
