Answer:
you need internet explorer because sometimes bad programmers learn languages such as vbscript and other sorts which require internet explorer. I find it annoying but its Microsoft's way of staying in business. just like visual basic and C# they charge a whole lot of money for it and it only works on windows. don't say anything about mono because that only targets framework 2.0 and they change it all the time so new C# apps will not work with mono. Just understand Microsoft targets dumb people to keep them in business. Thats just the facts and we have to live with it.

You can't uninstall it, but you can disable it to get it out of the way. If you're running Windows 7, click Start and go to Control Panel. Click the Programs category and find "Turn Windows features on or off." Click on this and a window will pop up with a bunch of programs you can enable or disable. Scroll down and look for Internet Explorer, then uncheck the box next to it.

Uninstalling IE is not a good idea. It has various hooks into the operating system, windows update won't use anything but IE and some anti-virus programs use it for their updates too. not only that but some of the functionality of IE is also used for Windows Explorer. If you really want to try and delete IE completely then try nLite - http://www.nliteos.com/nlite.html There's more about it at http://www.softpedia.com/get/System/OS-Enhancements/nLite.shtml As you're also having problems with Firefox I'd check your computer out properly first before you start deleting an important part of it - like IE.

There is no real advantage to uninstalling it, is there? It's only consuming a very, very tiny percentage of your HD. Just because it's there doesn't mean you have to use it. You can install as many other browsers as you want, they won't conflict. Pick the one you like the best and set it as your default browser. It's always handy to have IE available in case of emergency...you can always use it to download other browsers, or to hit one of those sites that really only works right in IE (not many of those left, fortunately). I installed FF 4.0 last night. Uninstalled it an hour later. Too bad, I've been a big FF fan for a LONG time. I think they may have lost me with 4.0 though.

You can't unistall it for one simple reason. Say you uninstall internet explorer and then all you have is google chrome and then you accidentally delete google chrome. Then you'll have no way of using the internet.

No. Bill Gates has it set up that you can't uninstall it. Why? Because he owns it.
