MMS, Java, and resistive touch screen technology are the main gripes, but I'd imagine the first two will be added sometime in the next year given there's nothing in the hardware or OS preventing it. It's lacking the ability to do USB Host, but no other smartphone OS can currently do that either. Maemo 5 doesn't come with a radio app built in, but there is already a working user-created one available, so no real issue there. It does do internet radio out of the box. In terms of downsides, well the device is quite thick and heavy. It'll be hard to convince casual users to pick it over, say, the Motorola Droid for cosmetic reasons, even though Maemo is a somewhat nicer OS than Android is. The operating system is still a work in process, so isn't quite as feature complete or well stocked in third party applications as the more mature iPhone OS and Android are, however there aren't the restrictions on what software can be made or on what SDKs developers use so will probably be more appealing to software development in the long run, provided Nokia can sell enough units to get a decent customer base. In terms of what phone to buy, that would depend on what you need and want from a smartphone, but the N900 is right up there with the best of them. The best solution would probably be to make a shortlist of phones that appeal to you and see if you can try them out in a store.
