How to train for swimming for Navy SEALS?

  • If im starting to train for Navy SEALS should I use combat stroke or freestyle for my 2 mile swims? Also do you recommend fins?

  • Answer:

Well I'm training for combat control which is very similar. My recruiters working on my contract right now. Just get yourself to a YMCA or 25m pool and swim laps of breaststroke and side stroke which are the only two strokes allowed for your navy seal pft. I reccomend a minimum of 500m every other day. All you need is to know how to do freestyle and the combat side stroke effeciently. But you must master the side and breaststroke as those are the ones they use to test you. I do reccomend fins, I'm not sure how the seals train but airforce spec ops swim with fins 80% of the time. I don't think it's harder IMO, I swim faster with them, almost feels like I'm flying. But it does get sine getting used to.

go to military.com fitness blog or w eits called, they have a LARGE selection of workouts for ALL service hopefulls :)

Navy seals compared to Marine infantry or Army are pansys. Try humping a ruck sack through a steaming hot jungle all day. I would have loved a dip in the water.

Best thing to do is fine a SAR swimmer. Learn how to tread water like a champ. Work on your combat and side stroke
