ID needed for marriage?

• I am getting married either 2012 or 2013 in Edinburgh. I am Scottish,my fiance is Polish but has lived in Scotland for 4 years. What ID do we need to book a registrar? Would my birth certificate and a photo ID card be ok? Its just a citizens ID card with the PASS logo on it. I have no passport or drivers license. My fiance has his passport but its Polish along with his birth certificate.

  First question is what year where you born, if before 1983 then all you require is your birth certificate. If however you were born after 1 Jan 83 you would need to prove your parents nationality If your parents were unmarried at the time of your birth nationality is taken from your mother, so it will be your mother's UK birth certificate that is needed. If your parents were married at the time of your birth, you can take your nationality from either parent, so the UK birth certificate of either parent will do. However, if you want to rely on your father's immigration or nationality status (for example where your mother is not British you will also need to provide proof of your parents' marriage. It may be quicker and easier to just apply for a passport as that by-passes all of this. All your fiance needs is his Polish passport. (They're trying to force us all to have passports to do anything these days lol) Congratulations
