you thats a very interesting question. from personal experence: yes. whenever i use some kind of chemical on my face i get more acne the next day than i had before. but when i just wash my face with soap, everything clears up. i have no hard evidence, but think about this: if the acne medicine cleared up your acne then you would be all set. but if it makes it worse, you will probabaly put more on your face more often and thus buy more medicine and give the company more money.

It was discovered that the alpha hydoroxy in the medication was also good for helping wrinkles disappear. It was tested extensively and approved to be marketed as an anti-aging product. salicylic acid (a beta hydroxy) is a common ingredient in both acne medicines and anti-aging products and works very well for both. if your acne medication is causing more problems for your skin than it is correcting then you are using the wrong medication for your condition. if you have occasional outbreaks then you should be able to use a product with benzoyl peroxide in it with no problem. if you have outbreaks quite often then you may want to use an Alpha Hydroxy (something with fruit acids in it) if you have blackheads or whiteheads then you will want to use a beta hydroxy (salicylic acid or lactic acid). You only use the level of medication you need and you always follow the directions for proper use of the product. To do otherwise will cause more problems. If your acne is worse than what an OTC product can handle then you will need something stronger and should see a doctor for a prescription.
