What is the best OTC treatment for adult acne?

I can't afford something really expensive. Someone told me that Salicylic acid (2% concentration) could help. Has anyone had success with this? Any ideas or suggestions will be appreciated.

salicylic acid or benzoyl peroxide is what most people will tell you, but a lot of the times it wont work, but its different for everyone.
