What can I do to heal my face skin from past acne medicine?
-
So, about 2 years ago, when I was 17, I started using this acne medication called Tretonin or Tretinoin or something like that (sorry I can't remember the exact name). I used it on the lower half of my face (around the mouth, and upper lip areas). Once I started using this medicine, that area became super vulnerable to sunburn, and whenever I took a shower, there would be tons of dead skin in the areas where I used it. My skin also became super dry and sensitive. I used this medicine for about 6 months or so, and now, I have been off it for a year and a half. I became so fed up with using this horrible medicine and trying to find facial washes that didn't screw my face over (with dryness and such and then having to use a bunch of moisturizer) that I just stopped cleansing my face in general, and haven't for a year and a half. I literally haven't touched my face with my hands or with any kind of soap or cleanser since I stopped using this medicine. I get it wet, but only with lukewarm/cold water. Now, my skin has moisture, my acne has actually gotten a lot better, and I believe my skin has been healing considerably over the past year and a half, but I still get that dead skin on those old medicine areas when I take hot showers, or sometimes even cold showers. It won't go away! I'm almost 20, and I'm just curious if anyone is having this problem (sensitive face skin, dead skin) due to using acne medicine, which I am 99% sure is the reason for my past/present skin problems. If anyone has any help.advice to offer as far as what I can do to further heal my face from this medicine, stop this dead skin from forming, and just, in general, make my face skin normal again, your advice is BEYOND appreciated. Thank you so much for your help in advance!
