What is the best treatment for moderate, persistent acne?

What is the best acne treatment?

  • Okay so I have a bunch of acne scattered on my forhead and neck. I used to use this 50$ acne cream set thing called Deesse (its swiss) that worked at first then didn't. Now I use neutrogena oil-free acne wash cream cleanser that reduces the size bit the acne still hurts. What alternative do you recommend? And is proactive as good as it sounds? Thanks a bunch!

  • Answer:

Mild to moderately severe acne may be treated with over-the-counter gels, lotions, and creams such as benzoyl peroxide which is applied directly to the skin. Oral antibiotics may also be prescribed to reduce inflammation while oral contraceptives have also shown to improve acne. In episodes where acne is extremely severe, another oral medication known as Isotretinoin (Accutane) is one of the most effective treatments with successful results. However, all these medications can cause negative side effects and it is important that you inform your health practitioner or dermatologist immediately. It is also important to develop a good skincare routine that involves cleansing your skin in the mornings, evenings and after workouts. By adjusting your lifestyle and incorporating a healthy diet, exercise, drinking lots of water and getting adequate sleep will also help to make a significant difference to your skin’s appearance. Herbs have proven to be a more natural, gentle alternative for the treatment of acne rather than the harsh, synthetic chemicals used in over-the-counter products and conventional medications. Not only are herbal remedies safe and effective to use, they also support the skin, immune and digestive systems. Herbal ingredients such as Melaleuca Alternifolia (Tea Tree Oil), Azadirachta indica and Arctium lappa contain antibacterial, anti-fungal and antiseptic properties and are not only effective for acne but for other skin conditions too. Other herbs such as Aspalathus linearis (Rooibos) and Bulbine frutescence have wonderful antioxidant and healing properties and also help to prevent skin infection and provide ongoing relief. In addition, Lavender Essential Oil acts as a circulatory stimulant and antiseptic, and is used to treat burns and wounds and to prevent scarring. Please, please, please get the book Breaking Out by Lydia Preston. I wish I had read it years ago: it would've saved me so much time, money, and distress. I spent years failing to understand what genuine treatments are available and how they work. Forget beauty company gimmicks and home made remedies. You need to understand the skin and what FDA-approved medicated treatments are available to help you.

Acne is very often caused by gluten intolerance, so you can use all the creams and potions you like, but you'll never get rid of it if it's a food intolerance that's causing it. You can be gluten intolerant but have no obvious symptoms. Many people have it but don't know. I was one of them. You can have a blood test done for gluten intolerance but they are notoriously unreliable. Your other choice is to try a gluten free diet for a few weeks and see if your acne starts to clear. You have to go totally gluten free. Just cutting back won't do it. Gluten is found in wheat, barley and rye. Oats are also included because of cross contamination on the processing line. Also you need to watch processed foods because wheat and gluten are often used in them. Some supermarkets have a gluten free section, but you could try just eating things like fruit and vegetables, rice, eggs, meat, fish etc. Here is a link explaining how gluten can be linked to acne. Good luck! http://www.acneteam.com/gluten-and-acne.html PS. I don't have any connection to this site.

You should try this clinically proven, holistic skin care system. The testimonials speak for themselves. I suffered from cystic acne for years, and had the scars to prove it. Whilst the scars have not disappeared all together, they are greatly reduced. It is not very expensive, and definitely worth it if like me, medications and creams have had either not effect or severe side effects. I tried Proactive for months with no improvement.

Try home remedies . they are easy to use and less expensive. They do work 1: Make a paste by mixing honey and cinnamon powder. Apply this paste on the pimples before sleeping and wash it next morning with warm water. Repeat for two weeks, pimples will disappear forever. 2: Rub fresh garlic on and around pimples. Pimples will disappear without a mark with regular applications 3; Apply ripe tomato or cucumber pulp on acne pimples and keep upto 1 hour, then wash. 4: Mix groundnut oil with an equal amtount of fresh lime juice and apply on face. Leave for 10-15 minutes and wash. It may be applied daily to prevent formation of blackheads and pimples (acne). 5; Grind nutmeg with unboiled milk and apply on acne for 1-2 hours. This works as a magic. Pimples should disappear without leaving a mark

Go to acne.org. Their regimen works for EVERYONE. NO ONE has taken it and had it not work. MILLIONS of people use it. Those who say it doesn't work didn't do it right or weren't patient enough. Yes your skin will be dry - INITIALLY. But this is the only thing that works for everyone.

Hey I suffered from acne pretty bad, here is some info for you! It can be a really tough time, but you will eventually get over it. The exact cause of acne is unknown, but doctors believe it results from several related factors. One important factor is an increase in hormones called androgens (male sex hormones). These increase in both boys and girls during puberty and cause the sebaceous glands to enlarge and make more sebum. Hormonal changes related to pregnancy or starting or stopping birth control pills can also cause acne. Factors that can cause an acne flare include: -Changing hormone levels in adolescent girls and adult women 2 to 7 days before their menstrual period starts -Oil from skin products (moisturizers or cosmetics) or grease encountered in the work environment (for example, a kitchen with fry vats) -Pressure from sports helmets or equipment, backpacks, tight collars, or tight sports uniforms -Environmental irritants, such as pollution and high humidity -Squeezing or picking at blemishes -Hard scrubbing of the skin -Stress. It is important to know this stuff before you start looking for a cure. I found this really awesome site that helped me a lot during my acne fight, you can check it out here: http://tinyurl.com/acne-no-more-today I really hope this helps, Good luck!

I've been in that situation and there is really nothing you can do about it. There are things you can do to try to reduce the blemishes and get rid of acne/pimples temporarily but you will always be finding yourself cleaning your face or your body depending on where it's at. I mean of course your acne should go away eventually but for some this is the case their whole life. I'm 29 years old and have been suffering from these little pests since I was a teenager. I tried all sorts of face washes from the local grocery store and what not, but nothing seemed to work. If anything it would just make my skin dry and itchy. Literally the best acne face wash I've ever used has been this stuff called clearpores. It has got rid of the acne to quickest and has been a success ever since I got it. It's unique cause of it's herbal supplement you take a long with it that helps your skin from the inside out. I saved money on it at skincleansingsystem.com at the time which was helpful. You should really look into this stuff and if you can to assure the best results, get the 3 month supply because if it doesn't work it will still save you butt on the return policy. Well good luck and best wishes.
