If i can wear 10k gold and not have an allergic reaction shouldn't i be able to wear 14k gold or higher?
-
i've never actually wore 14k gold. and I would also like to know if I'm actually allergic to anything but 10k gold because all that happens is my ears itch just a tad and sometimes it turns a little red.

Answer:
there are many other minerals/ingredients that they use in earrings when they are not 1000% gold, you be the judge on which ones they use, cuz they don't have to list them..any number of them can cause an allergic reaction..just keep in mind which ones work & which don't;; & the 'itching' can also be caused by too tight of a post, or too heavy of an earring...good luck!!

As you probably know, the gold is mixed with other items to make it solid enough to wear, and to make it cheaper. You cannot wear pure gold. what it's mixed with is what can set off your allergic reactions, so this is hit and miss. If you are buying earrings from a store, ask them if you can return jewelry you're allergic to, and if they say yes, ask them to provide proof of that in writing. Your best option, however, is to use a less-allergic material for earrings. Low level repeated exposure can lead to a much more severe reaction later on, which can lead to systemic (body wide) allergic symptoms, or rejection of the piercing. A piercing shop can help you pick out suitable ones that are less or essentially non allergic- titanium will pretty much never produce reactions, and is generally very piercing friendly. If you ever decide to get another piercing, which your other question suggests, please know that your allergies work EVERYWHERE and that it is especially important to pick less-allergic materials for such piercings- again, talk to a professional piercer about this!
