Transferring to an out of state college?

Community College business student transferring to top universities?UMich and Michigan State ?

  • Between the two schools I think I have a better chance of getting in to State. Even though UMich is my first choice, I don't think I would get accepted. Their requirements are getting harder to complete, and not only that, their transfer rates acceptance are below 1%. I am unhappy at the fact how community colleges are so frowned upon. The specifics and detailed admission requirements especially for RossBBA seems so unattainable and to me unreasonable. Are their guidelines stoned and set? Or do you think they will make an exception? When they asked for rigorous courses, what do they mean? If you are from a CC and follow a transfer guide, how can it be rigorous when you're doing what they are asking? I know UMich would help me get to my career with their elite status, but in the end I think I would be less stressed and even happier at Michigan State. But is State even top for business schools?

  • Answer:

First of all, you need to make sure your CC credits will transfer into Ross because you need at least 27 credit hours to get accepted. Honestly, I doubt you will get accepted into Ross. I know many well qualified students, who didn't make it, and I maybe one of those students this year. Apply anyways, who cares if you don't get in. Additionally, State's business school is very good, and won't have all of the arrogant east coasters that fill UMich. I don't know your stats, but they must be pretty good if you're considering two great schools. Good Luck...you will probably be happier at State. Also, you can just transfer into UMich because a degree in economics here is worth more than a business degree at MSU.

Both are good universities. Both Universities have excellent reputation. Don't worry. Both options are just great. It's up to you to gain your own reputation. Good Luck! Good Start! Kind Regards from Greece.

I'm a junior and high school and could say both are good schools, I just prefer Michigan State University ( plan to attend MSU in 2010.) Michigan State University can also help you get to your career with their elite status. If you think you will be happier at MSU then why not go there?
