What would be the best amp for this?

What's my best option to hook up my amp to a pair of speakers?

  • I have a 1000 watt amp and a pair of 700W speakers. The output of the amp is either Speakon or Bananna. The input of the speaker is Speakon or 1/4" plug. Can I only 1 run cord from the amp to the first speaker and then run a 1/4" cord from that speaker to the next? Or do i need a separate cord from the amp to each speaker? What is the bridged connection on the amp for? Thanks.

  • Answer:

You would better off running a separate wire to each speaker. A bridged connection is when you use position terminal of one speaker channel and negative terminal of the other speaker channel, but your amp must be designed to handle a bridged connection.

Mike - As the others have said - get two normal speakon cables and run one from each channel of the amp to each speaker. http://www.guitarcenter.com/Musician-s-Gear-Speakon-Speaker-Cable---14-Gauge-584160-i1499996.gc The bridged connection is usually for running a single subwoofer from an amp.

If you have two outputs and you connect one speaker and from that one you connect the next, you are using half of the power your amp can deliver. If it says 1000W is most likely 500W + 500W. When you bridge it it's gonna send both outputs into one speaker. Pay attention to impedance. If you connect two 8 ohm speakers is like having one 4 ohm speaker. Check your amplifier to see the minimum impedance. If you go below that it can overheat and even break.
