Car stereo works but has no sound?

1998 Dodge Neon Car Stereo POWER YES/SOUND NO!!!!!?

  • 1998 Dodge Neon Car Stereo POWER YES/SOUND NO!!!!!? me, just like a gazillion other people on here... i have a a/c delco car stereo and speakers. so i went to walmart and bought a dual brand, 200something watt radio. went through wiring 3 times. also had someone else check it over twice. all fuses are good. (side panel by steering wheel and under the hood). i connected the wires to the wire harness that i bought additional (i used crimp connectors). all has a good secure connection. i also have the instructions to radio and haynes manual for the 98 neon. so here is the problem: the ac delco works fine when hooked up, when i hook up the new radio it has power but no sound. ac delco has power and sound.... im stumped. to tie up any open ends. the car has no additional amps or anything like that. i did swap the radio at walmart for a brand new one. hooked it up, still same problem. thanks for any help outside the typical norm of checking fuses and wiring as i said before it has been checked several times by different people. all color codes and crimps/connections are secure. please post if there are additional questions you may have to help me resolve my problem. serious post/replies only as this is getting frustrating. i know car stereos well and very good in general with electronics. i have installed many many car stereos with little or no issues, which i have been able to complete to full working condition, just this scenario has me stump! PLEASE HELP!!!!!

  • Answer:

Not sure why unless the radio has a stuck mute button. This is the color codes for the car http://www.the12volt.com/installbay/stereodetail/2.html not your ac delco radio. Maybe power up the radio on a bench and hook a speaker up to the leads and see if you get anything. I hope you are not using the rca jack outputs for the speakers without an amp. Read the installation manual and see if maybe you have to program the thing. I think your wiring is wrong. I use a simple led to check output and pos- neg. Don`t ground your speakers if you can.
