Why is my transmission overheating?

Ford F150 Transmission Overheating?

  • I've got a 94 F150 with an automatic transmission that keeps overheating. I drive it a little while then the transmission oil blows past the seal. I've asked around and gotten different answers to what the problem is. One guy told me that there's a little oil pump in the bottom of the transmission and if it’s not pumping then that would be why its overheating, which makes sense. (Couple hundred bucks) I then asked a transmission shop and they told me I should just rebuild the whole thing. ($1500 +) I don't want to overhaul the trans if it doesn't need it so has anybody else had this experience?

    pump bushing is no good whats happening is when the trans gets to operating temp the bushing is moving back and forth on the pump body and hitting the front seal causing the leak. trans must come out and the pump apart problem is most trans shops will do the whole rebuild since some damage might have been done running low on fluid and to give you a warranty on the whole trans and not just fixing the pump. which in reality is the better option. find shop at ATRA.COM
