How much are license plates in Michigan?

Moved from Georgia to Illinois in Nov. Moving again to Michigan in Oct. Must I get new license plates & DL?

  • I moved from Georgia to Illinois in November. I still have Georgia license plates and driver's license. Found out that I am moving again to Michigan in October. Should I bother to get Illinois plates and license right now? Is it necessary?

    by law yes but they hav eto prove you live there before they give a ticket most states give 30 days but ive gone a year without license good any state and plates are to til they expire can get away with it til wouldnt switch til you get where your going to live an deven then might wait til you need a ID to prove you live or need like to cash a check wil pass til then just get it done when you can

Yes it is necessary and required. You should have got Illinois plates and D. license within 30 days of your move to Illinois.You have been illegal for about three months already. If you think you can avoid the law until you move to Mi. then continue to drive illegally. Mi. has the same 30 day requirement as Illinois.

If you maintained a residence in Georgia, no. You are kind of in a gray area of the law. When I was a contract employee, I maintained a residence in a "home state". If you move to a lot of different job sites this is something you need to consider. It save a lot of hassle on car titles and DL, and in some cases makes income taxes easier.

If you are a contract worker and maintain your residence in Georgia, you need do nothing but maintain your insurance, current registration and license for you home state. If you become a resident to the state you are moving to, you should re-register your vehicle for that state, get insurance and change your drivers license for that state.
