Why cant eye open my third eye?

• i know that its just a metephor for subconscious. i have been meditating a lot and have basically mastered a state of self awareness. i reflect very well, siphering through my imperfections and learning negative ones and understanding how i can change them into good using perceptions and understanding. but i just cant figure out exactly who i am. i know a lot of it comes from brain washing society teaching us when we are young to conform. but ive always been able to think for myself well enough to know that i create my own truths and understanding. i just dont know how to? i still feel lost and confused almost more then i ever have. how can i open my third eye? is this just a part of the process?
